New trip! Spectacular Bhutan hiking
Himalayan hiking, a cultural festival, the Tigers’ Nest and more
Bhutan is no ordinary country. It’s a place where happiness is part of the national identity. It’s a place where the people are warm and welcoming, the Himalayan peaks are spectacular and the travellers are few and far between. Join us on on our brand new 10-day walking tour of Bhutan from 7-16 December 2020, hiking through the highlights of this remote, serene and beautiful country.
Hike the Himalaya
We’ll take a sunrise walk through a quiet valley to the Khamsum Yulley Temple. We’ll take the ancient Gakidh ‘happiness trail’ between small villages. We’ll cross high mountain passes where our only companions are the local yak herders and the birds soaring overhead. Each day there are options to extend our hikes, depending on the fitness and enthusiasm of the group.
We have timed our tour to coincide with a wonderful Bhutanese festival. Here, at Dochula Pass, we will relax and take in the colourful costumes, folk dancing and music, all set in front of a spectacular panoramic view of the eastern Himalaya.
Tigers’ Nest Monastery walk
The final highlight will be our hike to the famous Tigers’ Nest Monastery, a holy site which clings to a remote mountainside. After acclimatising and hiking for the week, you’ll be ready to tackle this challenging but incredible walk.
Culture and cuisine
We’ll have time along the journey to enjoy traditional local cuisine, visit villages and spend time with the local people. We’ll see monasteries, temples and a nunnery while we are out walking and may even stop for a cup yak butter tea with the locals.
Your Park Trek host and hiking guides
We are very excited that our Park Trek host for this tour is photographer and travel journalist, Ewen Bell. Ewen has travelled extensively through Bhutan across the last decade and brings his vast knowledge and experience to this tour. We will also be walking with two local professional hiking guides who will share their local insights.
