Victorian Alps Bushfire Charity Walk

Four days of classic alpine hiking with 100% of profits going to bushfire recovery

Many of our beloved wilderness areas have been devastated in the recent bushfires. In the aftermath of fire there is a significant ongoing cost to local communities that are struggling to get back on their feet – the cost of reduced tourism.

North East Victoria is one region that has been hit hard. According to an article by Great Walks, over half of the tourism businesses in Victoria’s North East reported 100% profit loss from 2-9 January, with ongoing tourism loss in the first quarter of the year estimated at over $180 million.

Incredible work by Falls Creek Fire Brigade wrapping and clearing the area around two of our cherished high country huts. Pictured is Wallace Hut, built in 1889, the oldest standing hut in the High Country. This is a wonderful, graphic example of the kind of tireless effort local communities put in to support our wilderness and heritage. Image courtesy of Falls Creek Fire Brigade.

Park Trek cherishes our wilderness areas and relies on these local communities for our trips. To offer our support we have put together a Victorian Alps Bushfire Charity Walk, with 100% of profits going to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

During this 4-day walking tour, you will be hiking in gorgeous alpine wilderness, exploring local sites, and eating out each night to support local businesses. While we are running this trip to give back to the community, it’s a fabulous trip in its own right – a spectacular exploration of some of Australia’s most stunning alpine regions.

We’ll explore the Bogong High Plains, an expansive undulating region set at a high altitude. We’ll get you right up amongst Victoria’s highest peaks, but the walking is well within the reach of most walkers.

We’ll hike to Ropers Lookout for expansive views across the High Country at sunset. We’ll walk to Kelly Hut and Fitzgerald Hut where we’ll stop for lunch before taking the relaxing stroll back along the pretty Langford Aqueduct Trail. We’ll also follow the Wallace Heritage Trail to visit picturesque Wallace Hut, the oldest hut in the High Country.

Climbing to the summit of Mt Jaitmathang is a trip highlight. The walk is steadily ascending, taking you from Pretty Valley, past Tawonga Huts and up to the summit. From here you will gain stunning 360 degree views across Mt Feathertop, Mt Hotham and beyond.

This charity walk is running from 11 – 14 April, across the Easter holiday period. We hope that you will join us in supporting this beautiful region by coming along for what promises to be an inspiring and fun walking tour. Book online or call our office on (03) 5639 2615 for more information or to book.

Support the Snowys
Due to cancellation we have two places available on our usually booked-out Snowy Mountains 5-day walking tour. The NSW alpine region is also suffering from reduced tourism dollars so we’re hoping to fill these two places to provide as much support to the local community as much as possible. This tour runs from Sunday 29 March to Thursday 2 April 2020.

We encourage all walkers to keep on visiting their favourite hiking areas. Find out about trail conditions and, if they are safe,  go for a walk, buy lunch at a cafe, buy snacks from the general store, and support our bushfire-affected areas.
