ITINERARY
DAY 1 – Telegraph Saddle to Wilsons Prom Lightstation
Distance: 19kms, 7hrs walking approx.
Grade: 3 – 4, moderate to hard
The highlight of our walk is into the Wilson’s Prom Lightstation. What makes this destination so unique is the fact that it is only accessible by foot. After an early departure from Melbourne we make our way to Tidal River stopping enroute for a quick coffee and break. Once in Tidal River we pack up our belongings into our over night packs and set off to the remote but spectacular Lightstation where we stay for our first night.
We take the inland route beginning at Telegraph Saddle and walk just over 6 kms to Telegraph Junction. Continuing along the Telegraph track we reach the Halfway Hut which is our lunch destination. There are composting toilets available for use if needed.
We continue on past Martins Hill, to Roaring Meg, a popular campsite used by overnight trekkers. From here it’s another 6km to the Lightstation. The track opens up the closer we get to the Lightstation, offering magnificent views over the peninsula, with the sheer isolation of the Lightstation becoming apparent.
From its point on the peninsula the Lighthouse commands almost 360-degree views of tumultuous Bass Strait waters.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 2 – Wilsons Prom Lightstation to Waterloo Bay
Distance: 20.6 kms, 8hrs walking approx.
Grade: 3 – 4, moderate to hard
After breakfast we repack our backpacks and depart the Lightstation for the return journey to Tidal River. Today we take a slightly different route offering iconic Wilsons Promontory coastal views for the first 10 km of the walk across Waterloo Bay. Morning tea and lunch are enjoyed along the track, before we head inland towards Telegraph Junction. From here the track winds its way back to Telegraph Saddle.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 3 – Tongue Point and Mt Bishop
Distance: 12kms, 5 hrs walking approx.
Grade: 3 – 4, moderate to hard
After breakfast and lunch making we begin our walk to Tongue Point. This track hugs the windswept headland to begin. As we make it over the saddle, the sandy terrain soon gives way to dense coastal heath jeweled with stacks of weathered granite. With a short detour to take in Fairy Cove we finish up the final stretch meandering the narrowing headland to Tongue Point.
After our hike, we head back to the comfort of the lodge at Tidal River for lunch and a break from the trail.
In the afternoon we head to the Mount Bishop summit track, this return walk is a challenging trek with a wonderful reward at the end. The views from the granite bolder plateau are breathtaking, with a sweeping vista over the Proms west coast and offshore islands, and well worth the rocky scramble near the summit to get there.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

DAY 4 – Squeaky Beach and George Bass Coastal walk
Distance: 10kms, 3hrs walking approx.
Grade: 2 – 3, easy to moderate
After breakfast and lunch making, we depart Tidal River Lodge for a leisurely walk from Tidal River, climbing up and over the bushy headland before descending into the stunning Squeaky Beach. As its name suggests, Squeaky Beach squeaks when walked on. This is due to the ultra-fine quartz particles, all of which are the similar size and shape.
Our second Park Trek guide will greet you in the carpark and transport you via Kilcunda where we stop for a quick coffee at the Kilcunda General Store before beginning the George Bass Coastal Walk to San Remo.
This gorgeous walk offers panoramic coastal views from a narrow winding path, along cliff tops rising high above the pounding surf of Bass Strait. Mid-afternoon we make our way back to the Melbourne.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
*Walking times and distances may be adapted to the weather and groups needs based on guides discretion.
Each day we also provide fruit, snacks, tea and coffee and a nibbles platter.
Each evening after our days walking, we return back to our accommodation for some time to refresh and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the lighthouse or Tidal River. Your guides will curate a beautiful nibbles platter for you, providing the perfect setting for a relaxing evening. During this time, they will also conduct a briefing, offering insights into the days experiences and outlining your upcoming adventures. Using a map of the area, your guides will illustrate the various regions and walks we are set to explore in the days ahead.

Accommodation
Overview – Wilsons Prom Lightstation was built in from local granite, and supplies were shipped in every six months. There was no communication with the outside world, and families had the vital and often lonely task of keeping the light burning to guide ships navigating the wild waters of the Bass Strait. Guests can experience a little of a lighthouse keeper’s lifestyle, by staying in the Lighthouse cottages. Part of the appeal of staying here is its remoteness, as the Lightstation is only accessible on foot.
Tidal River is the perfect launching pad for experiencing Wilsons Promontory National Park. We’ll walk remote bushland trails, discover quiet pristine beaches, all a few minutes’ walk from our accommodation within the park.
Where you’ll be staying – We stay at Wilsons Prom Lightstation on night one and a Tidal River private lodge on the last two nights. These are both very unique accommodation and a wonderful place to take in and enjoy nature just outside our doorstep before and after our main day’s walking.
Facilities – Both accommodation options have a fully equipped kitchen, shared bathrooms facilities, and a modern communal area. There are a mix of single and double bunk beds in twin and quad rooms. You may be sharing with others on the tour in a quad room due to limited availability and the configuration of the cottages and lodges.
Single stays (solos) – We do not have a single supplement option on this tour but will match you with other guest(s) who have booked on the tour if you would like to join solo.
Additional details – Due to the remoteness of the accommodation options guests are required to bring their own towel, sleeping bag, and liner. Contact our team for availability to upgrade to private facilities on the last two nights at Tidal River.

Guest Notes
Getting there – Tours depart and return from Melbourne. Direct flights are available through most airline operators.
Pick up location & time – We depart from National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, meeting at 6:30am for a 6:45am departure.
During the walk – Each day we provide breakfast, lunch and dinner (where applicable) as well as fruit, snacks and beverages to keep us full of energy throughout the walk. At the end of each day, we return to the evening’s accommodation to freshen up, relax, enjoy pre-dinner nibbles, and enjoy the local scenery. Each evening, our guides offer insights into the day’s walk, and talk through our upcoming adventures, using maps to give you greater insights into the journey.
Single stays (solos) – We do not have a single supplement option on this tour but will match you with other guest(s) who have booked on the tour if you would like to join solo.
Drop-off location & time – We return to Melbourne at around 5:00 pm on the final day of tour. If you plan to fly out on the last day of the walk, please book your return flight for after 7pm.
For the Lightstation component of the tour guests will need to help carry group food and personal belongings in and out of the Lightstation. We recommend a pack size of minimum of 40 litres for this portion of the walk. Upon arrival at Wilsons Prom, all guest’s main bags will remain locked in the Park Trek trailer which will be left at Tidal River while we are at the lightstation. Guests will carry their overnight packs with clothing, personal belongings, sleeping bag, lightweight towel, and food for the overnight stay.
