We depart Melbourne and head north. Our first day’s drive takes us via stunning Victorian country landscape as we pass through Seymour, and Glenrowan—the home of Ned Kelly’s famous last stand and police shoot out in 1880.

As we enter Porepunkah we start our first hike of the tour as we take on Mt Dunn Summit in Mt Buffalo National Park.

Mt Dunn is set amongst sub alpine plains, and tall alpine ash forest, sure to inspire you in this lush landscape. The summit offers sublime views of the Mt Buffalo plateau and will take us approx. 2hrs to complete this trek.

Enjoy lunch by Lake Catani, and after a busy day of travels we’ll head to a nearby township of Bright for overnight accommodation and time to wind down. Tonight enjoy a delicious two course meal prepared by your guides.

An early start for a big day! We pack up, leave the lodge and take a short drive to Mountain Creek carpark. The climb up is via the Staircase Spur track, climbing through the peppermints, then mountain gums, snow gums and finally breaking out above the tree line. From there we achieve the summit cairn, and stand upon via Victoria’s highest peak at 1986 metres. A great place to have lunch, then it’s down via the Eskdale Spur to our bus waiting at the bottom.

We head back to your accommodation to relax and refresh before heading out into town for dinner tonight at a local eatery or pub.

Day 3 – Mount Feathertop

Distance: 22kms, 9hrs walking approx.
Grade: 4, hard

We start today with a satisfying continental breakfast, and lunch making. Then we’re off for a busy day taking on Mt Feathertop Summit via the township of Harrietville—an old goldmining township- heading deeper into Victoria’s high country at the head of the Ovens Valley.

Our trailhead is at the south end of the breathtaking Razorback, a ridgeline connecting two of Victoria’s highest peaks – Mt Feathertop and Mt Hotham. It is a rocky and very exposed trail in parts and caution is required, particularly in windy conditions. The climb to the summit of Mt Feathertop (1922m) shows off incredible views.

As we descend down the mountain into Harrietville you’ll pass through camping areas dispersed amongst the snowgums and into the forest, before finishing the trail with a huge sense of achievement.

As we finish up long day, we’ll freshen up before we heading out for dinner.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

The galleries are a jumble of large granite rocks forming impressive passages. Some sections are tight to squeeze through, and do expect some rock scrambling through the granite outcrop. Enjoy magnificent views over the Buckland Valley and outwards towards Mt Bogong.

Our chariot awaits our return, ready to take us home to Melbourne with expected arrival time of 5.30pm.
