“A beautiful part of the world I’d not seen before. The passing whales made it even more special, as did the likeminded travellers and small group size. Our guides were very well organised, knowledgeable and friendly, who worked well as a team and nothing was too much trouble for them. Excellent!” – Carole, July 2023

Would you like to walk the stunning South Coast of New South Wales, better known as the Sapphire Coast? Then join us on the iconic Light-to-Light Walk in beautiful Beowa National Park. DAY 1 – Bundian Way Story Trail & Lake Curalo Track

Distance: 8km, 3.5hrs walking approx.
Grade: 2 – 3 easy to moderate

We have two central pick-up locations:
1. Merimbula RSL – 50 Main St at 7.45am for an 8am sharp departure
2. Cranky Café – 33 Ocean Drive, 8.15am for an 8.30am sharp departure.

Today marks the beginning of our journey as we leave Merimbula, embarking on a southern route toward Eden and Lake Curalo.

The newly signed Bundian Way Story Trail begins at Cocora Beach. This trail guides us through a mosaic of diverse native flora with sweeping coastal views over Twofold Bay. Enriched with encounters with diverse fauna and wildlife, the trail also shares intricately woven stories about the Yuin people, who have traversed these paths for thousands of years.

Stopping by the Budginbro Lookout we then continuing to walk the sandy beach to conclude at Quarantine Bay.

Continuing on our route, we make our way to Eden via Lake Curalo for an afternoon walk. The boardwalk and walking track meanders around the lakes edge, through swamp melaleuca forest, across salt marsh and over the shallow water where you can see reeds, fish and various bird species. The journey unfolds at the estuary mouth, where, during low tide, a crossing is possible, albeit with the prospect of wet shoes.

Today we also visit the Eden Killer Whale Museum, preserving Edens whaling, timber and fishing history, including the skeleton of ‘Old Tom’, a famous killer whale. Here we have a guided tour.

This evening, we check into our beautifully located accommodation at the Green Cape Light Station atop the spectacular sea cliffs of the Sapphire Coast. You can enjoy the sweeping views while sharing nibbles and a two-course meal thoughtfully prepared by your guides.

Meals: Lunch and Dinner.
Accommodation: Green Cape Light station

DAY 2 – Boyds Tower to Saltwater Creek

Distance: 13.5km, 6hrs walking approx.
Grade: 2 easy

This lovely walk undulates south past spectacular coastal forest, sandy beaches, rocky bays, sheltered inlets and ocean platforms. Leather Jacket Bay offers a scenic stretch of red rocks, coloured by iron oxide which cemented the sand particles together many millions of years ago, while small and peaceful Mowarry provides a picturesque sandy beach.

There are plenty of spots along the trail to rest and relax, or to enjoy a spot of birdwatching. Whales frequent the area from late May to early December so it’s a great time for whale watching or even orcas while walking the trail.

Today we begin our journey where we left off yesterday, we continue south along the stunning Light to Light trail. The walk from Saltwater Creek to Bittangabee Bay is a gently undulating section. It passes through lovely sections of coastal forest, heath and rock platforms.

There are also great opportunities for birdwatching and of course whale watching. Be sure to keep your eyes open for the endangered ground parrots or rare striated field wrens.

There is a myriad of other wildlife, if you are lucky, you might catch sight of echidna, kangaroo or goanna in the area.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 4 – Bittangabee to Green Cape & Haycock Bay to Barmouth Beach

Distance: 10km, 4hrs walking approx.
Grade: 2 easy

After breakfast and lunch making, we pack our belongings into the Park Trek trailer and head off for our final day of walking. Today we have two shorter walks including the last section of the Light to Light trail and a short scenic walk just north of Eden. This last section of the Light to Light follows a route that has been travelled by lightkeepers over many years. Originally, supplies for the lighthouse were off-loaded at Bittangabee Bay and remnants of the old horse-drawn tram track still remain. We travel north through Eden and stop off enroute to Merimbula for our last walk of the trip – the spectacular Haycock Bay to Barmouth Beach walk. This pleasant walk follows the headland on the southern shore of the Pambula River estuary.

Offering spectacular views along the pristine coastline of the NSW far south coast, this walk captures the remote beauty of Beowa National Park. On this walk pass through a range of landscapes from windswept heath to woodlands while taking in views of rugged rock formations and dramatic cliff lines.

From here we head back to Merimbula. We aim to be back in town by approximately 4.30-5pm so if flying out after the tour please do not book flights before 6.30pm.

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch

Each day we also provide fruit, snacks, tea and coffee and a nibbles platter.

Each evening after our days walking, we return back to our accommodation for some time to refresh and enjoy the spectacular scenery of Green Cape. Your guides will curate a beautiful nibbles platter for you, providing the perfect setting for a relaxing evening. During this time, they will also conduct a briefing, offering insights into the days experiences and outlining your upcoming adventures. Using a map of the area, your guides will illustrate the various regions and walks we are set to explore in the days ahead.

Our overnight accommodation is perched on the edge of a peninsula, within Beowa National Park at the historic Green Cape Lightstation. This is the southernmost lighthouse in NSW and offers breathtaking views across Disaster Bay, the site of many shipwrecks.
