Looking for some inspiring (free to air!) viewing…

Are you looking for inspiring viewing about walking? Best of all what if it were free to air!

Well at Park Trek Walking Holidays Australia , when we are not out on the trails, we always have a keen eye out for content that inspires us to get outside and immerse in nature.

Well recently there’s been lots of great content, so we thought we’d share with you some of the shows we’ve enjoyed (or rewatched!) and that we think most other walkers may also enjoy.

Best of all you can stream all these shows free on Australia’s SBS On Demand or the ABC iView … so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the viewing at no charge!

“Tracks” the Movie

For an all-time epic Australian adventure, we love Tracks. This feature tells the remarkable true story of Robyn Davidson’s 2,700 solo camel trek from Alice to Western Australia’s coast. The colours and the landscape are spectacular. You may even be inspired to join our camel trek.

SBS “Great Walks of Australia”

More recently, we’ve been loving SBS’s Great Walks of Australia, hosted by Julia Zemiro. Now in its second season, Julia is joined by Gina Schick and Susie Youssef as they explore some of Australia’s most iconic walks, with fantastic stories and interviews along the trail.

Recent episodes explore the magnificent NSW Snowies, the stunningly diverse Bruny Island, including an interview with one of our favourite bird watchers and guides, Ramit. Earlier seasons have included the beautiful Victorian Goldfields, and Melbourne’s Yarra Trail.

ABC “Back Roads”

We also love walking features on the ABC’s Back Roads program, hosted by Heather Ewart. We enjoyed this week’s episode on Australia’s longest walking track, the Heysen Trail, and the recent Tarkine special hosted by actress Martha Dusseldorp – both such special places.

Going further back in the Back Roads archives, you’ll enjoy learning about Victoria’s Great South West Walk (including its inspiring track volunteers), the Shipwreck Coast (Great Ocean Walk), and the Cradle Mountain special – all some of our favourite walking destinations!

Conclusion

We hope you enjoy these viewing recommendations. We’d love to hear from you on any other great Australian viewing focused on walking in nature, and the benefits of connecting with others, and finding personal time and space.

We hope these shows provide some healthy inspiration for your next walking adventure.

Happy walking and thanks for reading.
