“A truly beautiful Flinders Ranges Walk with Camels”, Katherine, May, 2024
Time in nature is one of the best ways to clear the mind, and feed creativity. And our very special walk with camels in the ancient Flinders Ranges is a trip like no other.
Among other things, it combines an extraordinary landscape with camels – the early supply chains. So, it’s no surprise our walkers are inspired to put pen to paper about their experiences with us.

We thought we’d share this reflection from a recent Flinders Ranges Walk with Camels guest:
“Where the ancient rivers run (sometimes)
Where the ancient rivers run,
This is a special place to wander.
Through seemingly endless acacia plains, to [spectacular] gum lined gorges,
This is the land where ancient rivers run.
The local mob, the Adynamantha, could tell stories of the ages,
The history of the land, its flora, fauna, dreamings – and the settlers.
From the Ediacaran period to the present, this land carries tales,
This is the land where ancient rivers run.
Where roos, yellow footed wallabies, emus and other species roam,
This country also holds history of farming stupidity as Goyder well knows.
Where settlers naively judged prowess by British stocking ratios,
This is the land where ancient rivers run.
The hills held copper, promising riches to settlers from the south,
And the lands deceiving green allure, drew optimistic farmers from far and wide.
But the riches were largely illusory, and the rains irregular and cruel,
This is however a beautiful land – where ancient rivers run (sometimes).”
