A fun and social day out along Victoria’s spectacular south-eastern coast will launch our day walk program

Our new day walk program kicks off in just over two weeks with our first walk along the breathtaking George Bass Coastal Trail in south-eastern Victoria on Saturday 19 October.
This spectacular 15km return trail wanders along the clifftops of Victoria’s Bass Coast. The coastal scenery here is rugged and beautiful – expansive views across the water keep us company for the entire walk. Native plants cling precariously to the windswept cliff tops and below, waves roll and crash into the rugged rock formations.
Starting near the Phillip Island gateway town of San Remo, we’ll walk the trail to Kilcunda and then return back via the same route. The trail crosses through several different terrains – up and down grassy hills, along gravel track and along sandy beaches. The walking requires moderate fitness – you’ll need to walk over rough ground and sandy sections, and you’ll need to climb over fence stiles along the way.
As we walk, we’ll keep our eyes open for the local birdlife – Pacific gulls, black-shouldered kites and Nankeen Kestrels all roam the skies. Wallabies, lizards and other native critters are sometimes spotted along the way too.
When we reach Kilcunda, we’ll stop and grab some lunch and perhaps a coffee from the lovely Kilcunda General Store – or you can bring your own lunch if you prefer. After a rest and some food, we’ll return along the trail back to our starting point, soaking up the glorious views in the opposite direction.
The walk will be hosted by Park Trek’s personal training guru, Moira. She’ll be happy to chat through ideas for increasing your walking fitness to enable you to tackle more ambitious walks. Joining us for the walk is Anthi – she is one of the founders of lightweight hiking gear company 50 days. Anthi is a great source of knowledge about hiking gear and pack harness systems, so it will be a great opportunity to chat about hiking daypacks and how to adjust your pack to carry your load efficiently.
This day walk offers a perfect chance to meet up with a group of like-minded people and have a friendly, fun and social day out. You can enjoy beautiful scenery as you test out whether you like the ‘group walking’ experience.
The Bass Coast is about 100 kilometres south east of Melbourne – you’ll need to organise your own transport to and from the trailhead at San Remo. The trail is reasonably exposed, so bring a sunhat and plenty of drinking water and wear sturdy walking shoes or boots. This walk is just two weeks away, so you’ll need to book online or give us a call on (03) 5639 2615 to book. We’re looking forward to meeting you for a social and spectacular day walking experience!
