Like all Park Trek walking holidays, we’ve carefully designed this experience so you can focus on enjoying the journey. Carry only a light day pack, immerse yourself in the beauty of the Australian Alps and leave the logistics, planning and support to our experienced guides.

Discover Australia’s Most Spectacular Alpine Landscapes
For many Australians, the Snowy Mountains conjure images of winter snowfields and ski resorts. Yet for walkers, the warmer months reveal one of the country’s most remarkable landscapes.
The Snowy Mountains are home to Australia’s highest peaks, unique alpine ecosystems and some of the most breathtaking walking terrain on the continent. This region offers a rare opportunity to experience genuine alpine environments without leaving Australia. From granite ridgelines and glacial lakes to wildflower-filled herb fields and towering snow gums, the diversity of scenery is extraordinary.
Throughout the tour, you’ll explore some of the most celebrated areas within Kosciuszko National Park, experiencing the constantly changing landscapes that make this region so special.

Stand on the Summit of Australia’s Highest Mountain
For many guests, reaching the summit of Mount Kosciuszko is a genuine bucket-list achievement.
At 2,228 metres above sea level, Mount Kosciuszko is Australia’s highest peak and one of the country’s most iconic natural landmarks. The sense of accomplishment that comes from reaching the summit is matched only by the exceptional views that unfold in every direction.
Your summit day begins with a scenic chairlift ride from Thredbo before following well-maintained walking trails into the alpine zone. As you climb higher, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, revealing sweeping mountain vistas, rugged ridgelines and seemingly endless horizons.
The summit itself provides a moment to pause, reflect and appreciate not only the remarkable scenery but also what you’ve achieved over the course of the journey.
Walk Through Landscapes Found Nowhere Else in Australia
One of the greatest joys of this walking holiday is the incredible variety of landscapes you’ll encounter.
From your very first walk along the beautiful Thredbo River, you’ll discover cascading mountain waterways, granite boulders and magnificent snow gum forests.
By day two, you’ll be exploring the high alpine environments of Charlotte’s Pass, climbing through alpine herb fields and traversing sections of the spectacular Main Range. The views over Blue Lake, Lake Albina and the surrounding peaks are among the finest in Australia.
The final day takes you through the distinctive snow gum woodlands and granite outcrops of Porcupine Rocks, providing yet another perspective of this remarkable mountain environment.
Every day offers something different, ensuring the experience remains engaging, inspiring and rewarding from start to finish.

Experience the Beauty of Australia’s Alpine Landscape
The Snowy Mountains are home to an incredible variety of plants and animals that have adapted to life in Australia’s highest environments.
During your walks you may encounter kangaroos and wallabies grazing among the snow gums, while the rivers and creeks provide habitat for trout and the elusive platypus. Birdlife is abundant, and the changing seasons bring different displays of alpine wildflowers and native vegetation.
The alpine environment is one of Australia’s most fragile and unique ecosystems. Walking through it with experienced guides helps reveal many of the subtle wonders that visitors might otherwise overlook.

Learn the Stories Behind the Landscape
The Snowy Mountains are much more than spectacular scenery.
This region is rich with both Aboriginal and European history. The tour begins with a visit to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre in Cooma, where you’ll gain a fascinating insight into one of Australia’s most significant engineering achievements.
You’ll also walk on Ngarigo Country, learning about the deep cultural connections that Aboriginal people have maintained with these mountains for countless generations.
Understanding the stories of the landscape adds another dimension to the experience and helps create a deeper connection with the places you visit.

Stay in Beautiful Traditional Alpine Accommodation
A rewarding day on the trail is even better when you return to comfortable accommodation.
Throughout the tour you’ll stay in lodge-style accommodation in the beautiful Thredbo Valley, typically at properties such as Penderlea Chalets. The accommodation offers comfortable twin-share rooms along with welcoming communal lounge, dining and cooking spaces.
The relaxed atmosphere creates plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow walkers, share stories from the day and enjoy the sense of community that is often one of the highlights of a Park Trek adventure.

Enjoy Delicious Meals and Genuine Park Trek Hospitality
Food plays an important role in every Park Trek experience. We pride ourselves on having an abundant supply of hearty, healthy and tasty food throughout your walking holiday.
Each morning begins with a hearty breakfast before preparing your lunch for the day ahead. Trail snacks, fresh fruit and tea breaks help keep energy levels high throughout the walk.
Evenings are a chance to relax and celebrate the day’s achievements. Most nights feature pre-dinner nibbles followed by delicious two-course dinners prepared by your guides using fresh ingredients and regional produce wherever possible.
After your Mount Kosciuszko summit day, the group enjoys dinner in beautiful Jindabyne, providing a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the journey together and celebrate reaching Australia’s highest peak.
Walk with Experienced and Passionate Guides
Exceptional guides have the ability to transform a good walk into a truly memorable experience.
Throughout the tour, you’ll be accompanied by two experienced Park Trek guides who manage every aspect of the journey. From driving and logistics to meal preparation, safety management and storytelling, they ensure everything runs smoothly so that you can simply focus on enjoying the experience.
Their knowledge of the Snowy Mountains environment, local history, wildlife and walking conditions helps bring each day to life while providing reassurance and support whenever needed.

Carry Only a Day Pack
One of the biggest advantages of joining a guided walking holiday is the balance between adventure and comfort.
Throughout the Snowy Mountains tour you’ll carry only a light day pack containing your daily essentials, water and lunch. Your main luggage is transported and remains at your accommodation, allowing you to fully enjoy the walking experience without the burden of carrying a heavy overnight pack.
For many guests, this creates the ideal combination of challenge, comfort and enjoyment.

Is This Walk Right For You?
This tour is ideal for walkers who want to experience Australia’s alpine environment while enjoying the support and camaraderie of a small guided group.
Across four days you’ll walk approximately 46 kilometres on a mix of easy, moderate and more challenging terrain. While some days involve longer distances and steeper sections, the pace is designed to be achievable for walkers with a reasonable level of fitness and a sense of adventure.
The small group size, comfortable accommodation, supportive guides and carefully selected itinerary make this an excellent introduction to multi-day guided walking holidays as well as a rewarding experience for seasoned walkers.
