Top 3 reasons to visit Kakadu and the Top End with Park Trek
(And $200 off our Top End trips is reason number 4)

1. It’s an iconic part of Australia
The top end of the Northern Territory is an important part of Australia’s natural and cultural heritage. Wetlands teeming wth birdlife, rugged escarpments, stunning waterfalls and significant rock art make this an iconic Australian region. On Park Trek’s 8-day Top End tour, you’ll visit the classic icons of northern Australia – Kakadu, Litchfield National Park, Arnhem Land and Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge.

2. The walking is incredible
The walking on this tour really gets you out amongst the highlights of this amazing region. The Barrk Sandstone Walk is a 12-kilometre circuit that takes us to a dramatic rock outcrop that perches above the surrounding landscape. This walk is simply beautiful – and then there’s the rock art. Anbangbang Gallery is home to some of Kakadu’s best known rock art, including the famous ‘lightning man’.
Sweetwater Pools is a more leisurely walk and the pool at our halfway point is a glorious place for a rest, a snack and a refreshing swim before the walk back. And there are loads more walking highlights: a stroll around Mamukala wetlands with its rich birdlife; a short hike up to see the rock art at Ubirr; a walk to pretty Wangi Falls; a hike alongside the clear waters of Walker Creek; and a walk to Florence Falls and Buley Rockholes where a refreshing dip is almost obligatory.

3. The added extras
We are very fortunate to be able to take a day trip into Arnhem Land with a local indigenous guide. We will learn about the area, take a walk up Injalak Hill to a spectacular escarpment lookout and we’ll visit a local non-profit arts centre. It’s a very special part of our trip.
We’ll take a relaxing soak in the thermal pools of Bitter Springs plus we’ll visit the huge magnetic termite mounds of Litchfield National Park. We’ll also take two fabulous boat trips – both are included in the trip price. We’ll explore the gorgeous wetlands of Mary River Corroboree Billabong, where there are usually plenty of saltwater crocs to spot. Our cruise down Nitmiluk Gorge (formerly Katherine Gorge) is highlight – rugged red rock walls rise up from the water and rock platforms and rapids form a picturesque link between sections of the gorge. It’s simply spectacular.
