Last week Park Trek was fortunate to have a year 10 work experience student join us. His passion for the outdoors was infectious. We thought we’d share his reflections on his love of the outdoors.
Background
From time-to-time our business has the opportunity to work with work experience students. Naturally we attract students with a love of the outdoors.
This year we were joined by Harry who is currently in year 10. He enjoyed his time learning about the planning and logistics that goes into creating our great walking experiences.

He also enjoyed getting to know our company happiness and therapy dog, Cleo, the Great Dane. In fact, Cleo was a constant source of amusement throughout the day for Harry.
Reflections of our Work Experience Student
On his final day Harry wrote this short reflection about why he loves the outdoors. We share his sentiment for the benefits of time in nature, so we thought we’d share it. Thanks for the reflections below Harry.
“Growing up I was fortunate enough to have parents with a love for the outdoors. We would often go for walks or go to the hills and learn how to light fires and make shelters as a kid.
As I got older we did more and more in the outdoors, from fishing and camping to hiking and bushcraft. Whenever I was in the bush I felt a strong connection within myself and to the land – I knew early on I was hooked on the outdoors.
For me, the outdoors is a place where I can go and express myself and know I won’t be judged. It’s also a place where I can go to de-stress, relax and make lifelong memories with friends and family.
One thing I love about the outdoors and hiking is how close it brings people and how many new people you meet that you would not speak to otherwise.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of waking up on a cold morning in the Australian alps, putting on your boots and unzipping the tent to see a beautiful sunrise.
Nothing will ever beat the outdoors – no screen or photo can replace the feeling of seeing sheer cliffs and mountains with your own eyes.
Another thing that I love about the bush is the feeling of accomplishment you get after a hike and especially when you have a scenic campsite.
I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to get out and involved in nature as there is nothing quite like it.”
Park Trek acknowledges and pays its respects to the Traditional Owners of the lands upon which we wander as a walking company. We recognise the unique place held by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the original custodians of the lands and waterways across our continent, with histories of continuous connection dating back more than 60,000 years. We are proud to live on the planet’s oldest continent with the oldest continuous living culture. We support the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
